The High Cost of “Legacy” Status
In the manufacturing world, “Legacy” is often a polite way for an OEM to say your machine is a liability to them. Whether the original manufacturer has gone out of business, purged their old drawing archives, or simply stopped supporting a 20-year-old model, the end result for you is the same: unacceptable downtime.
When a critical component fails and there is no replacement in a warehouse, you are faced with a choice: mothball a multimillion-dollar asset or find a partner who can build the part from scratch.
The Craftco Reverse Engineering Process
We don’t just “make a copy.” We recreate the engineering intent behind the part. Our process is designed to handle the “no drawing, no data” scenario that stops other shops in their tracks.
- Step 1: Geometry Capture & Precision Measurement: Using high-tolerance digital and manual measurement tools, we map the exact geometry of your worn or broken sample. We account for wear-and-tear, ensuring the new part reflects the original design tolerances, not the “rounded off” edges of a failed component.
- Step 2: Material Analysis & Upgrades: Often, the original part failed because the material wasn’t suited for the environment. We analyze the grain, hardness, and stress points. If we can use a superior alloy or heat-treatment process to make the part last longer than the original, we will propose that as an upgrade.
- Step 3: Digital Twin Creation: We move the physical measurements into a 3D CAD environment, creating a permanent digital record. If this part fails again in five years, we won’t need the physical sample; we simply pull the file and hit “start” on the CNC.
How to Get Your Machine Back Online
Working with us is straightforward, even when the data is missing. You don’t need a formal blueprint to get started.
- Contact our Engineering Team: Submit your project details via our RFQ page.
- Ship the Sample: Send us the worn or broken part.
- Quote & Blueprint: We provide a firm quote and a digital preview of the replacement before we cut any metal.
